Saturday was to be mostly driving so we thought to set out early and find a new breakfast place to break the journey after an hour or so. After a couple of detours to 'promising-sounding' places (including Green River that was basically a large truck park) we found the equivalent of of a greasy spoon - cheap and plentiful.

Pressing on, with great music (Mark Knopfler, Bruce, Neil Young, Pink Floyd) the 230 miles was soon completed, but a bit of a nightmare navigating in off the Interstate which consisted of 8 lanes of congested traffic. Not fun, especially as I was driving.

Our hotel - the Little America Hotel - is the nicest so far, and has an outdoor swimming pool which is really welcome and where we spent a couple of hours in the afternoon.

We walked to the main shopping area and snapped up some Levi bargains. Back to the hotel was by tram, which is free within the main central area.

On Sunday we took a tram downtown for a walk through Temple Square. We were made very welcome by LDS members and were able to go into the Tabernacle to listen to their huge choir for a while. Other magnificent and large buildings to do with the church of LDS dominated this part of the city. I read that the population is 50 / 50 Mormon / others, as it is a good quality of life here. Certainly, the city is clean and cared for with a lot of public amenities and nice places to go.

We walked up to see the Capitol building - one of us impressed, the other not so much - probably to do with the steep climb and not so much as a place for a drink, let alone ice cream at the top.

We had a couple of beers and some lunch (chicken wings part 2) at a sports bar which had a great vibe, and some live music.

More time at the pool then actually dressing up a bit for a decent dinner at the hotel. Back on the road tomorrow!
