Another glorious day and we set out to visit Antelope Island, a nature reserve about an hour north of SLC on the Great Salt Lake. As we drove over the causeway, we noticed swarms of flies on the shore line. Apparently we had chosen a terrible time to visit as brine flies, mosquitoes and bity gnats were at their peak. No wonder it was quiet! It became very obvious that any kind of hiking would be impossible, but we thought we'd drive around anyway. Before long we spotted a few bison in the distance and shortly after another larger herd - very exciting!

But then, we started to encounter a few bison walking along the road really close to us, and realised that a huge herd (100 or more) were coming down the hillside, crossing the road in front of us into the field the other side. We spent ages watching this - it was the sight of a lifetime as they were so close, with lots of babies too. What a privilege to be able to see these magnificent beasts in this gorgeous place; an experience we will never forget.

We arrived in Logan in the afternoon, a university town in a valley between the mountains, allowing enough time for a walk around. This town was again founded by Mormons travelling west in the late 1800's, before which it was used by hunters / trappers and the Shoshone Indians. Sad history here.

We had a recommendation for an ice cream parlour so being a hot day, it felt only right to sample some.

This evening we had to abide by the Utah state law and be fully identified before being allowed to consume alcohol. Unfortunately only one of us was carrying a passport, so only one of us had a beer with dinner. Such a shame.
