Friday / Saturday / Sunday

We are staying about a 10 minute walk from Downtown, so very convenient - also we have a self-catering apartment of a good size and we have the ability to make a cup of tea! It is very comfortable but Nashville prices are pretty horrendous.

On Friday evening we had tickets for Boz Scaggs at the Ryman Auditorium. We had been very much looking forward to this both in terms of having wanted to see this artist for ages and at the historic Ryman - a dream combination. The Ryman is really the birthplace of country music being where the Grand Ole Opry was recorded and many years of performances from legends. It is a small theatre with fairly uncomfortable pew-like seating, which did not take away from Boz's amazing show. All the much-loved songs such as 'Lido Shuffle' 'Lowdown' 'High Sierra' with 'Harbour Lights' personally bringing on a few tears. The audience were very lively and appreciative so a great atmosphere.

Of course we had sampled a few Honky-Tonks before and after the show. Broadway was packed including loads of hen-parties.

Saturday took us to the Glen Campbell musuem - fairly small but a really lovely tribute. Despite vowing not to drink at lunchtime we were drawn into the Whiskey River Saloon next door as we could hear a really good band playing. From there we went to the Wild Horse saloon and saw a bit of line dancing.

Back to our apartment block for a some relaxation at the rooftop pool. At least that was the aim but it was noisy and busy!

Saturday evening took us back to Broadway - still very busy but we found several good honky tonks and walked over the pedestrian bridge to see the sun go down.

Our favourite bar from when we were here before was 'Legends' so we were looking forward to spending time in there, but would you believe they had a rap band in there! Sacrilege! Generally it does feel a bit different here from 2018 - we think there has been an attempt to widen the appeal to other music genres, and it does seem to be hen-party central - so many cowboy hats / books a daisy-duke shorts! However I don't think we were here at a weekend last time.

Today (Sunday) we spent the vast majority of the daytime in and around the Country Music Hall of Fame. We also went on the RCA Studio B tour, which was brilliant. Over 1000 hit records were recorded there right back to 1956. Another good part of the day was an 'audience' with a Nashville music artist talking about his life and work. It was a really good insight. (For the record Nick Scallorn / Jana Kramer).

Tonight we have Tanya Tucker back at the Ryman....
