Wednesday

We travelled downtown via the Blue Line getting off at Clark/Lake to join the riverside path. Immediately we were thrown into the stunning architecture that makes Chicago such a 'wow' city. From the iron bridge structure to the new and old skyscrapers. Interesting the 'corn cob' buildings that look so contemporary were built in 1962. Chicago was really at the forefront of design. The river joined Lake Michigan at Navy Pier but we turned south and walked along the harbour until we reached the fantastic parks right in the heart of downtown. We were as taken with Millennium park as when we visited back in 2014 (to start Route 66) - the Bean is a lot of fun and we love the huge water monoliths (the faces change). Chicago is our favourite large US city by a margin.

Evening took us back into the Loop, first for a pizza and then onto Buddy Guy's. This was a smaller venue than we had imagined, and we really enjoyed the intimate atmosphere and music. The house band were great and include a slot lead by a 87 year old Blues singer. She was great - had the voice and sass; I hope I can still rock the torn jeans at that age!

Thursday - sadly we must mooch to the airport to commence our journey home. It has been epic!
